Daddy's Baby Girl

Running Away

“I’m going to run away” she whispers to herself in the dark.

Tip toeing around the room gathering up the things she needed. She was tired of being away from him. She wanted to be with him. She couldn’t stand the lonely feeling any longer. She loved him so much it killed her everyday to be away from him. She grabbed her phone to send him a text. 

“I love you”

She wasn’t sure how she was going to get there or even if he’d let her stay once she arrived but she had to try. She threw her bags in her car and got in. She took a big breath before heading to the gas station to fill her tank. She put his address in her GPS and put her car in drive. 

As time ticks by alone in her car she begins getting nervous. Each passing minute making it worse. She shouldn’t be doing this. She should have just stayed at home. Pulling over the car she tries to calm herself. 

“Its going to work out” she says to herself “He won’t turn you away. He loves you.” 

Taking another big breath she puts her car back in drive and pulls back onto the road. Hours tick by as she sings along to the radio trying to keep her focus. Suddenly sleep begins pulling at her. She hadn’t thought about needing to stop and sleep. Looking at the money in her wallet she sighs but decides finding a spot to sleep would be a good idea. Her sleep isn’t very restful. She tosses and turns dreaming of the possible outcomes of her hasty trip. She wakes up and finds something to eat before heading back out. She has to get there quickly. Wondering if anyone back home has noticed she’s missing yet. If anyone even cares. As the hours tick by her phone goes off a few times. She doesn’t answer it. The only person she wants to call hasn’t called and won’t unless he figures out what she is doing. 

She sighs as she pulls off the highway to look for some lunch. Finding herself not hungry she forces herself to eat a little and decides to take the rest with her. She can snack a little as she drives. Each hour that ticks by brings her closer to her destination. Her heart pounds inside her chest. She pulls over again about an hour away from his place. Her nerves a mess. She’s on the verge of a break down thinking about just turning around and going back when her phone rings. Its him. She tries to collect herself before answering it. 

“Hi” she barely squeaks out.

“Hi baby girl” he says gently “Would you mind telling me what’s going on?”

She scrambles for something to say.

“Your friend called this morning baby” he says his voice calm and soothing “She says no one has seen or heard from you since yesterday.”

“I… I’m…” she stutters and stumbles over her words.

“How close are you baby?” he asks. 

“An hour away” she whispers. 

“Come on home baby” he says with a hint of happiness in his voice “You can call everyone once you get here.” 

Her heart leaps out of her chest as tears spring from her eyes. 

“You mean it?” she asks.

“Yes baby. Come home where you belong” he says.

“I love you” she says smiling to herself.

“I love you too baby” he says before hanging up. 

That last hour of driving was a blur. All she could think about was getting to him. To her new home.
